In the 1830’s the Jardwadjaki Aboriginal clan of western Victoria played a game called “marn grook” (translated as match ball). They kicked the marn grook, made from possum skin and filled with charcoal, high into the air and then leapt up to pluck it from of the sky – early pioneers of our uniquely Australian game – Australian Rules Football.
